BILOXI, Miss. (WLOX) – Spring is as good a time as any to begin a healthier lifestyle. However, for those looking to start working out, there’s one important action that can’t be overlooked: stretching.
“They’re going to come in and get an assessment when they first start, and then we’ll evaluate them and see where they are with their flexibility and mobility,” said Celeste Kline.
Celeste Kline is the manager of Stretch Zone in Biloxi. Their goal is to make sure their clients get the best stretch possible to help with stiff muscles. One way this is possible is with their stretchboards, which are used by certified practitioners, strapping their clients in for complete stability.
“If you think about when you raise your leg up to 90 degrees, the other leg is going to raise up too. So, we hold that body or limb down for safety and to really get into that stretch and get really deep into those muscles and tendons,” said Kline.
Once stretching is finished, those looking for the perfect workout may want to consider biking.
“It’s very fluid, so it’s easy on your knees, hips, and joints. It’s a full-body exercise, so people think you’re just peddling, but as you’re holding the handlebars, you’re getting a full-body exercise,” said Bart Luther.
Luther is the owner of Biloxi Bicycle Works and explains that riding a bike can be both fun and healthy at the same time. The business hosts bicycle rides around the city every week.
“You’ve got the beach, you’ve got Back Bay, we have bicycle routes, we have roads and neighborhoods. It’s a great place to ride your bike and get to see what the Gulf Coast has to offer all in one downtown area,” said Luther.
Both Kline and Luther enjoy what they do because of the results they see in their clients and the benefits that come with it.
“Sometimes, you don’t always have to eat because the clock says so. After a bike ride, you’re generally hungry, and when you’re hungry, you digest your food better. When you digest your food better, you sleep better, and when you sleep better, you’re just generally better to the world,” said Luther.
“We always hear, ‘Oh my gosh, I feel so much lighter!’ Because when they get their first stretch, it’s instant results,” said Kline.
The Stretch Zone will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony on April 10 from 3 to 5 p.m. in Biloxi.
